2024 Chapter President: Steve Halstensgaard
Club News for November-December 2024
The 412 Lakes Chapter had their last tour of the season on October 6th, when Don Dovre led a group of 19 people in 9 cars on our annual Chapter Fall Foliage Tour. On a sunny but breezy day, as the leaves were approaching peak color, we drove about 45 miles on the wooded byways north and east of Detroit Lakes to reach Ice Cracking Lodge Bar & Grill, where we had dinner. Following dinner, Don led us on another 25 mile drive, taking a more direct scenic route back to Detroit Lakes. Many of you likely remember Orlo & Ellen Gilbert, who were leaders in the 412 Lakes Chapter for many years before Orlo’s death. A highlight of the tour was seeing the Gilbert’s beautifully restored 1941 Ford woodie station wagon back on the road, driven by Orlo’s son, Phillip, and accompanied by Ellen.
We held our last Chapter meeting of the year on October 28th when we attempted to hold an election of officers for the upcoming year. Rod Boyer agreed to serve as vice-president and Bill Henke had volunteered to serve again as treasurer and they were elected to those offices. Steve Halstensgaard had indicated his time commitment to his manufacturing business has increased and he no longer has adequate time to give to being president, so he asked that someone else be found to replace him. From the small group attending the meeting, we had no other nominations or volunteers for the other offices, so the election of the remaining offices was tabled until our next meeting.
Our monthly Chapter meetings will resume in January when we start planning our 2025 activities. This winter, members will have the option to attend our meetings by Zoom.
