Chapter News: November-December 2017

Hello everyone from the Northland, Fall is here! The colors are vibrant at full peak in the Arrowhead region, which means it is time for the Arrowhead Chapter Annual Fall Foliage Tour on October 7 at 1:00 p.m.

Our group of 10 old cars met at the Thompson Hill Visitors Center with our hosts and tour guides Bob & Peggy Moerkes who provided coffee & doughnuts on a cloudy, chilly day to warm us up.

After visiting with other tourists who came to see the colors and look at the old cars, our party headed West on Skyline Drive to our 1st stop: Bardon Peak, looking over Morgan Park and where the old Steel plant was and the St. Louis River bay.

Our 2nd & 3rd stops were in Gary-New Duluth neighborhoods, then over the Oliver Bridge, constructed in 1916 by the Interstate Transfer Railway Co. and 1,900 feet long. The upper deck carries a single track rail line. the lower deck carries the road into WI Hwy. 105 into Oliver, WI.

Our 4th stop on this colorful tour led us on the Military Rd. in Wisconsin to the Shabby Shed: 5th stop in South Superior, WI a neat little knick-knack shop where we could stretch our legs.

Onward we go to our 6th stop: the Allouez overhead conveyor system is owned by BNSF Railroad that carries taconite pellets to the ore boats at the docks, a little note: the Allouez neighborhood was named after a Jesuit priest, Father Claude-Jean Allouez.

Traveling the county and city roads enjoying the beautiful fall colors and scenery we leisurely headed to stop 7: the Superior Port of Entry located on Wisconsin Point Road, by this time the sun had come out to warm us up, the port was breath- taking.

By this time, yours truly was getting hungry, along with other car club members we proceeded to the Upper Deck Restaurant at the Superior Airport. We ordered off the menu, had a leisurely lunch, good conversation and a good time.

Thank you so much Bob & Peggy for a beautiful, relaxing fun-filled tour.

Those who attended the Fall Foliage Tour where as follows:
